I just recieved my eflow tag in the post, it's bloody huge!
A couple of questions. Are the tags from other companies this size too?
And do I have to mount it behind the rear view mirror like it says in the instructions, or are there alternatives?

And lastly, why is it so big? I'd reckon voyager 1 and 2 would be able to pick this thing up :) or are the government going to be tracking me from now on?
(where did I put that tin foil hat:D)

The Easytrip one is about the size of a matchbox.

The tolltag.ie one is very small too.

I haven't activated it yet, so I think I might just send it back and change companies.

Yea but you don't get the 1euro discount on the m50 with the other tags do you?

AFAIK all the tags have the same discount, just different monthly charges

I changed to tolltag.ie last year for the small tag as well - it's tiny! Never had a problem with it working either.
And their customer service is excellent, easy to speak to someone who actually helps, unlike Easytrip/Easypass (which I had for 5 years before).

I have an eFlow tag and agree, it is a big monstrosity when I see it externally. I can't see it inside, furry dice block it :pac:

    Would love a smaller one.

Wouldn't waste your time with EFlow, crap company, easytrip are much better and smaller tag

Brings to mind another bugbear; why are we obliged to have so much crap cluttering up our windscreen? Tax disc, insurance and NCT, when the latter two are actually necessary to get the former. So why three pieces of paper? It looks crap and reduces visibility

Still don't need Nct to get a tax disc, room for it on the form but its overlooked.

The clutter on the screen is a right pain in the sphincter.

Interesting thread am going to check out the alternatives, the OH's tag tends to suffer from amnesia when it comes to different tolls

Reckon I might sign up for the easytrip.ie tag, switching from eflow. I noticed this little offer:

    http://easytrip.ie/special-offers/refer-a-friend-to-easytrip-and-get-6-months-free-account-administration-fees-for-you-and-your-friend

Anyone an existing customer, and fancy dropping me a PM? Gonna do this tomorrow provided I'm not in some minimum contract with eflow, I only replaced my tag in January. ;)

I've seen a few people recently with the discs mounted vertically on the passenger side A pillar.. talk about a fcuking blind spot!!

Common sense seems to have evaporated lately, and not just on the roads.

I might sign up for the easy trip ac myself, I must check if I'm on a contract with eflow.
The only problem is I don't like paying up front, I know it's a small amount but why can't I just pay for what I use?( I've noticed that when companies already have your money it's nearly impossible to get it back whereas if you owe them money they are more willing to listen to the reasons why they shouldn't get it:rolleyes:) My usage is infrequent and erratic. For example I used the m7 and m50 today, but won't do so again for 6 weeks.
This was the main reason I originally signed with eflow.

So the next question is......which company has a decent size tag that I can post pay for?

When my brother signed up for eflow he got a nice small tag, that was about three years ago.

When I signed up a year ago, I got a hideously big one.

Why o why did they change it. I was also waiting a month to get the tag.

Also what toll roads actually use the tags?

The M4 is the only road I use that uses the tag, the M6 is licence plate recognition and so is the M7.

Why not upgrade them all to licence plate recognition and get rid of the tags.

The m7 is licence place recognition?? Are you sure? I thought it was tag/cash only. The only one I'm aware of that is is the m50.

The M6 and M7 are tag or cash only, as are all other tolls except the Westlink.
There is plate recognition ONLY on the Westlink.

As goes the tags, there's two physical compatible tags made, Kapsch and Melodhy. Melodhy are owned by the crowd who have the contract to operate eFlow, hence them using their horrible bricks. The Kapsch tags are the size of a normal small matchbox, everyone else uses these.

    Hi pred racer,

Just noticed your post this morning and we take it on board. Due to similar customer feedback, we have acted and plans are currently in place to introduce smaller tags. They will be available from early September.

It's important that the tag is fitted on your windscreen, to ensure it is detected by the overhead gantry on the M50. Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for replying eflow.
Surely I don't need it for the m50? Only for the other roads.
A smaller one would be most welcome.

I dont really notice it, then again i have a massive sunscreen sticker on my car....

No problem, happy to help. Yes, you need the tag on the M50. As you have a tag account, the system reads your tag so you should ensure it is correctly placed behind you rear view mirror. Hope this helps.

Well you don't really need it do you? Many times the m50 has failed to read my tag but has picked up my reg instead.

Does the tag beep every time you get tolled?

If so why does it not beep on the M6 and M7 tolls.

This one I have does on all tolls, but my last one only beeped on the m50 and not on the m1/m7 but it read it fine.

My easytrip one beeps at portlaoise and M50 but not fermoy...weird, but it still works anyway. It is the size of a matchbox though, barely noticeable. My dad has the eflow brick which he holds against the windscreen when he needs to. Otherwise it's in the cup holder.

I'm sure this thread has been done a few times before!

Have an eflow tag. It sits behind the rear view and I cannot see it at all. Works fine, some windscreens have a protective coating on them which prevents the signal returning to the toll point. If your windscreen has black dots (usually above the mirror) place your tag there, as the signal can pass thru no probs.
