3rd learner permit

    Hi, just wondered if anyone could clarify something for me please? I"m on my 3rd permit which I let lapse last August, I know I must apply for the driving test before I can get a new permit but not sure if I can leave it till new year before I do this as the permit would be expired a year then? Dont want to have the hassle of having to do theory tests and starting again! Appreciate any advice given, thks
