Privacy Glass - Removable w/out changing glass?

May seem like a silly question but, I assume factory fitted privacy glass in rear half of cars is a tint in the glass and not a film on the window? Is this correct? Also is the after-market film applied to create privacy glass removable to the extent that you wouldn't know it had ever been applied? Thanks!

Aftermarket films can be removed completely, but I think if it's factory privacy glass then (short of replacing the glass) you're stuck with it.
