Whilst driving to work this afternoon i noticed that my oil light would come anytime i drove around a sharp corner. I didnt have time to check the dip as i was running late.
Anyone have any idea why it only goes on when i go around a corner?

Yep. (Most likely) Your oil level is low! Check it immediately!!!

Check your oil level its probably low.If it is, its bad to be driving with low oil level.

Wonder why it would only flicker on going around a corner though.

It's on the verge of flicking on fully, and the imbalance of liquid levels in the car when cornering is triggering the alarm/light momentarily.

Oil is a liquid, so when you go around a corner, obviously it will move from side to side causing the light to come on now and again when its low.

Nooo don't put any oil in, you'll have a great excuse for being late tomorrow morning..:D

Also worth mentioning is that most lights like this are actually 'Low Oil Pressure' as opposed to low level.

This is a lot worse because what it means is that as you are going around a corner no oil is being pumped around the engine which is a lot worse than the level just being low and in need of a top up.

Ahh he might get away with it, seen it happen over the years.

My advice would be to drop the oil that left in it to a very clean container.. Examine the oil to check for any metalic deposits..

Some people get away with it, but Oil lights generally come on when its too late.

To understand the principle fill a basin half full of water.
Holding the basin in two hands turn rapidly to the left or right.
Notice what happens to the water? It all moves to the side of the basin opposite of the direction of movement.
Now imagine that the basin is the bottom of your motor, commonly called the sump. The water is your cars oil.
In the middle of the basin is a tube that sucks the oil up and distributes it around your engine to cool and lubricate all the parts.
What happens when you corner is the oil sloshes away from the pickup causing the pump to run dry and suck air.
This triggers the oil pressure light switch and your little red oil can flashes in your dash.
Your engine has no oil circulating during that period, which is a bad thing.

This used to happen to a friend of mine, he had an Alfa 156 , they can use a good bit of oil so need keeping an eye on. Well, I still remember the phone call to me where he described the sound of stones in the engine.

That was it for the engine, it got fed up with being treated like sh1t. A very expensive and inconvenient problem.

Check your oil level regularly and get the thing serviced if it needs it, at least an oil and filter change anyway

Same thing was happening with me. I checked the service manual and it said that is the light remained constant get it checked ASAP. Since it went off after going around a corner I topped up oil and went on my merry way until one day the light stayed on. .

Turns out filter was in bad shape, changed oil and filter. Been a couple of days now and no further issues. Touch wood.
