Am thinking of training as a florist, wondering is it a good idea given the current climate.

I suppose that regardless of the recession people will still have anniversaries , people will still die , people will still get married , etc , so their will still be some demand for flowers.
On the other hand flowers are very much discretionary spending and I would consider such purchases were in the past financed from the surplus cash people had , thanks to pay cuts , tax increases , Universal Social Charge , etc this surplus is gone from most peoples pockets .
Bottom line I guess is that Florists are probably suffering as much as any retailer at the moment.

Probably not a great idea to start a Florist right now but thats not to say you would not be able to get some hours work from an established florist.

Hi, I have been a florist for many years. Now I have a home based Wedding Flower business and things have never been busier for me thank god. Floristry is a wonderful skill to train in.

I first got into it about 14 -15 years ago when in school. Trained for few years in the local florist. Worked in many shops in the years that followed. I then trained as a Legal Exc. But floristry was always something could fall back on. And since I had my Daugher I have been building up my business.

I would Defo say go for it !!!!:D

Yeah I would concur. Do something because you love it, not because it suits the current climate. If you find something that you love to do, you'll never work a day in your life.

Defo make a go of it.

Personally I'd rather regret doing something, than not doing it.
