What kind of inducements can parents of children doing their exams at the moment afford this year?

    Maybe parenting?

Or ask the Leaving Cert students what they've been promised?

    1 in·duce·ment
Noun: A thing that persuades or influences someone to do something: "no inducement to wait"

(Google Chrome, right click on word select search and it's the first result ;) )

Parents bribe their children to try to do well in their exams? Isn't the prospect of college enough? Or even to do well for themselves? If not, then how about using the threat of the front door as an incentive.

My dad offered me a euro for every point I got in the Leaving Cert. He didnt even understand the whole points system nowadays but knew 600 was the max, he really should have thought it through more... he lost a lot of money :D

I actually think inducements are terrible.

I did my LC in 2009, and some of my friends were promised cars, and one was actually offered:
    -€200 for each A
    -€100 for each B
    -€75 for each C
    -€50 for each D.

€50 for a D! I mean seriously that's crazy. You'd almost get that just for writing your exam number on the page.

I wasn't offered anything, got 495 points, and afterwards my parents gave me €100 as a surprise, but I was never told to expect anything.

"do well in your exams and you've a better shot at a stable, wealthy life"

kids too f'ucking thick to understand that these days or what:confused:

    fock the leaving cert bullshot

hung over my head for all those school years like some death sentence.

they need a different system. while schools are on their politically correct trip why not think up a system that actually educates the kid in the way the kid wants, rather than saying if you dont fit this framework youre wrong and stupid.

How about giving them a dole slip and say "this is your future if you don't do well, so get back to the fúcking books"

I didn't get any inducements. I got suprise present after the exams of a watch that was a conbined well done on the exams/birthday present. I'm still wearing it today. That was it.

If the kids are stupid enough not to see the benefits of doing their best anyway then they shouldn't be doing the Leaving Cert.

I don't get promised anything. I mean, my parents will probably give me a card and a bit of money when I get my results provided I've done my best but there's no ''get an A and you get this much money'' or anything and I wouldn't expect it.

I got a handshake and a stern, "you should be studying!". Parents shouldn't bribe their children into doing well in the leaving certificate - what are they going to do once they hit college?

Well at that stage there is no hope for them so they bribe the college.
