Best cars in the world

Just wondering what people think are the most reliable mid range cars in the world. I've had a bad run of luck after buying two different Skoda Octavia's. didn't get more than a few weeks of hassle free driving out of them. One was a 06 with only 38,000 miles and the other was a 98 with 89000 miles. Will never buy another one! My last car was a Mitsubishi Colt and at 12 years old - it's still perfect. Said this to mechanic and he said - "you wouldn't get that from a Skoda".

So, would love to hear what people's opinions are. Also, while all these electrical conveniences are great (windows etc) - is everyone plagued with more expense and problems because of them?

Also Aircon - does that make a car more expensive to service?

Want to get a decent reliable car next time!

You'd probably get a better response in the normal motors forum.

I'd say you meant reliable more so than best car! Can't imagine the aul corollas being the best cars imo!

From personal experience I'd have to say the K11 micra is one of the most reliable cars out there. I've one 11 years and all I've had to do is service it.

I've an original Laguna too for seven years and only for dodgy wiring (corroded) for the TDC sensor its been very reliable.

try to find a non scangered civic and it will run milles after your death.

getting a standart normal civic as a quest on its own. i tryed at it and failed.

Best cars? Most on that list are mediocre at best...

Most reliable? Well the Fiesta is up there along with a few others.
Best ever? Ah sure that'll have to be the M3 csl. *fap fap fap*

Yes, you want something with no AC, Sunroof or Radio.

OP if you're incredibly worried about expense, buy a moped.

Thread title should be the best mediocre cars for under 15 grand that you can afford to run

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 154 ✭✭Maruney

    Alfa 156 of course.
All the bad experience stories are made up so Alfetta's like me can pick them up for next to nothing...honest.

The 146 & 155 stories were not made up though.

I have never owned, nor would I ever consider any of those cars for myself. What an insipid selection. Public transport would become a very attractive alternative.

Most of them are far from bad cars, what do you drive yourself out of curiousity?

my 11 year old octy is still working perfectly, including the toys your mitsi did'nt have, the a/c, c/l, e/w, s/r.
they are all machines, they can all break,
    if you look after them..................

They're all perfectly functional but none stand out as even best in class against their peers and yet appear here on a poll of best car in the world?

I'm driving an E39 5 series these days.

The Accord would be my pick of the bunch and I looked at a few a while back but clean ones are rare. The rest, including the Passat and Octavia, meh.

Why are you in the motors forum then?

Thats borderline heresy, saying you prefer public transport to the VAG group :P

Ah lads, will yiz give the chap a break - y'all knew what he meant!

If I had to choose from one of them it would probably be the Octavia in fairness.

    If I had to!

The snobs are out in force tonight alright! None of them would qualify as "Best in the world" but if the Octavia was sold worldwide......

Wow, you must be a super strong alpha male that impresses, well, everyone.

Extremely intelligent, modest, able to run all day and lift 200kg off the ground, easy. And happy, you must be very happy and fulfilled. A beamer would do that for you. Why would you suffer driving a crappy Honda or a Passat? Might as well stand in the rain and wait for a smelly, rickety bus, that arrives late and gets you there slower than if you actually walked. I see your point, not!!! :):D:p

You'd have to be a real man to drive a car like that, wouldn't you?

sorry but I still think this "insipid" stuff is hilarious.

Reminds me of a joke that goes: What's the difference between a hedgehog and a BMW? With a hedgehog - the pricks are on the outside. hahaha

Ah sorry lad - but you're being a bit of a snob reallly.
