A video from an address to Cupertino city council last night where Steve Jobs unveiled plans for an incredible new building that will hold 12,000 people. Scroll down for video.

12 thousand people. Thats big but size wise not as big as you think. There is 4000 people in AIB Bank Center and only some of the buildings are occupied.

I wonder how he will get on with planning permission!

only difference is apple needs their 12k employees, probably could trim a couple off AIB no bother.

One of the city councilors asked what the citizens of Cupertino would get from the new campus, and in particular brought up a free Wi-Fi network, like Google offers in Mountain View. Steve responded that Apple was the largest taxpayer in Cupertino and he felt that the tax benefits to having a company like Apple in Cupertino was benefit enough and the city should be providing a service like that.

"If we can get out of paying taxes, we would be glad to provide free Wi-Fi."
    Classic Jobs.

I watched a bit of the video and the city councillors were pretty much fawning over him. All that lovely tax revenue. The councillor showing him his iPad was a bit pathetic though. Jobs could have showed them plans to build a giant Apple in the middle of the city and they would have approved.

Ireland would sell its soul to get 1/100 of those employees here so god knows what a city would do to keep 12000

The building does look very well in the sketches. They also are making a good environmental effort with the landscaping. Judging from how the council spoke to him I can't see this getting anything but all thumbs up!

it really looks nice as the councilor sad, fantastic is a understatement, so when its complete giving it'll be granted permission maybe we'll see all Apple events in Cupertino, as they'll have an auditorium there. would it be 5,000 capacity or maybe 10,000+? as steve said on monday at the WWDC was 5200 people were there and if they needed a bigger place it wouldnt be in San Francisco

They do, alongside a large call centre.

Wrong. They do the European manufacture for Mac Pros, and have put production lines in in the past for Powerbooks, iMacs and others. Cork is their European HQ and has their finance, logistics and other functions housed there.
Call centre for europe is also on site in the old PCB manufacturing part.

Apple’s latest recruitment drive is taking place with the minimum of fuss and almost no media exposure.

A spokesperson for Apple Media said: "We never discuss staffing or people at Apple, that’s just the way it is."

    Typical Apple ;)

There's MASSIVE plants in Dungarvan which are empty at the moment, i'm sure something could be put in there.

The old Waterford Crystal plant has been empy for some years down here.

Dungarvan? They don't need to move 5 miles outside of Cork City to find a load of disused factories. 2 more coming up with the Pfizer factories.....

Ireland's soul is already sold ............. to the next bidder, not necessarily the highest bidder:(

Heck, there are several (last time I was up around there anyway) buildings within spitting distance of where they are now.

Where is APples european HQ? is it in Cork - I'm surprised that they don't have a "European HQ" in Cork shovelling the cash from Europe through it to benefit from the corporation tax.
