Have a new noise after appearing, sounds like turbo whistle.

Although this noise can be heard when the car isn't moving and standing still.

I.E. Sit there out of gear, rev the engine and the whistle appears at around 1500 - 2000 RPM.

Noise appears almost when it seems to be spooling up and spinning down :/

    Any ideas .

Best description I could give is it sounds like a Clanger :)

A cracked pipe? Like down to intercooler or back to engine?
Or turbo on the way out?:)

Hmm .. been doing some reading up on it.

Maybe the EGR Valve is sticking ?

Its seems intermittant :/ and theres no loss of power.

I spend 2 1/2 hrs a day in it, know where every noise comes from at this stage.

I'll have a look later this evening, see if I can locate where its coming from... ffs

Before you get into big expense just make sure it's not just a belt thats got a bit shiny! Sometimes it is the simple things!

Well .. its definitely an Air noise .. not a belt noise.

Had a listen with a mate, sounds like its coming from somewhere on the right side, not near the turbo or egr valve.

Bloody noisy tractor diesel .. hard to hear anything :)

On my S40 the broken clip on the breather hose made a whistleing type noise. It's a commop problem on the PSA engines, as someone who is not familiar with changing the filter can break the clip on the hose when doing so. Mine was the 1.6d, presume the 2.0d has a similar layout.

On the right hand side of the engine there is a vacuum pipe or two that go back to the turbo. Check if it is split. Also the solenoid that activates the turbo waste gate is at the right hand side. That pipe should be coming out of it. Are you down on power?

Let us know how you get on with this? My s40 started making a similar noise a few days ago.. however, its gone now so its intermittent (for the moment anyway)

The wife's petrol V50 started making a strange sort of whistling / whining noise before the alternator crapped out.

Would increase in pitch as the engine revs increased.

My car is making a high pitched sound when being driven,
mechanics say that it sounds as though the turbo has a piece broken off it and this can ruin the car.
the cost for repair is €1200 and i have been told not to drive the car.

    this is a nightmare
    can anyone else advise?
