    Hi

Newbie scanner user with Bearcat 72XLT, would like to use a better indoor portable aerial and looking at this Desktop Discone:

    Ebay Discone

Just want to improve reception without having to put up an external aerial.
Is this wise , or should I look at something else?

    Discones are a wideband aerial.
But, you'll never get the best reception by having the aerial indoors on a
    table or window.
However, if you are happy that that's your aerial limit then I would suggest
that you try something a little cheaper first before spending 55 pounds plus
    P+P on it.
See what reception you can get with something really cheap...even a coat hanger!!
If you start to pick up more stuff then the chances are a decent aerial will pick
up more stuff over a wider band when mounted in the same position.
Or you could just go and buy the aerial and be done with it.

It's a trade-off at the end of the day.

You could get this one from Maplin in the UK. Have never seen it in their shop in Cork. 8.50euro P&P.http://www.maplin.co.uk/desktop-discone-antenna-29672

You could try this one, good bit cheaper.http://www.maplin.co.uk/sky-scan-mobile-scannerantenna-29733
