    Does anyone know if you earn income (tax free) by working in the UAE and are not normally considered a resident of ireland for tax puposes (i.e., working in the UAE >183 days per year every year) then you can bring this income to Ireland tax free?

    Hi Analyst,
    I don't think you'd be liable for Irish tax on income earned in UAE.
    You would be classed as ordinarily resident, domiciled but not resident in the State which means you are taxable on worldwide income. But income from the following sources is exempt:
    1. income from a trade or profession no part of which is carried on in the State;
    2. income from non-public office and non-public employment the duties of which are exercised wholly outside the State;
    3. other non-Irish source income provided that it does not exceed €3,810 in the tax year on which it arises.
    There is a guide on Revenue’s website.

    Thanks Lexa - I found that guide. The job may be for a few years so I gather that if I remain there for at least 4 years I would no longer considered as ordinarily resident in Ireland from the fourth year onwards.

    Hello,

    Be VERY careful when working in the UAE and make sure you are paid on a regular basis. There is an Irish man out there working in the construction area attached to a reputable Arab Firm and he has DONE many of innocent irish workers who have worked for him in good faith. Many who had worked very long hours in the sweltering heat. These men are professional men who had to leave Ireland to find work in order to pay for mortgages and to feed and pay bills for families here in Ireland. It is a disgrace that this Dublin man can get away with this and he will continue to do this unless he is stopped. So to all you Engineers and professionals be very careful who you work for and ensure you have all the right documentation. The UAE can be very crooked place.

    Hi could anyone advise.
    Im resident in UAE (spend more than 183 days here in the year). I have been asked to do some freelance work for a company in ireland.
    My questions
    1. Are my foreign earnings tax free here in uae.
    2. is there a tax obligation from the irish company to pay to revenue for the work they give me.

    I've read the double taxation treaty but to be honest its very vauge on the subject.

    Any advise would be great thanks
