Is anybody watching this documentary on TV3? I'm nearly getting sick here watching it. Imagine using your dole money to pay for your holiday home? :eek:Thats a disgrace.
How can these people get away with defrauding the system?

I watched it but was amazed that there didn't seem to be anybody struggling - and that was the reason to explain why they were defrauding the system. I thought I would sympathise with the "cheats" but when one had a holiday home, another had 4 holidays a year and another who can go out 3 nights on a trot....my sympathy stayed with myself.

I wish to put the point accross that of Maire declared her income of €600 per month which equates to €7200 per annum, €138.46 per week she still would be entitled to full rate One Parent Family Payment. You can earn up to €146.50 per week from insurable employment and still recieve the maximum rate of One Parent Family Payment and earn up to €425 gross per week & receive a reduced rate OPFP. If Maire increased her hrs to 19 hrs per week she would also maybe have an entitlement to Family Income Supplement depending on her family size. So Maire did not fraudulantly claim €34,000 over 3 yrs. If she declared her work she was entitled to all she received. She should however disclose her earning to her local council for her monthly rent to be assessed correctly. The TV3 programme must not have researched OFPF entitlements although this is clearly available online on welfare.ie.

Does anyone know when TV3 will air the third part "Fiddling The System - Irelands Sham Marriages"?

It's a TV show. I'm sure these are fairly unique cases (though I haven't seen the show, I'm sure they portray it that everyone on SW has a holiday home! )
