Looking to find out what the difference is in these engines in terms of performance and long life? the 1.9 is a 02 corolla, the 2 is a 04.

Don't know much about toyota diesel engines so would like to what I'm better going for.cheers

The 1.9 is an old PSA indirect injection lump that filled a gap where Toyota's old diesels did not meet emissions regulations and their common rail offering (D4D) was not yet ready. The 2.0 will be a D4D.

The corolla D-4D was 90hp with the option of 110hp. This got upgraded to 116hp in the 2004 facelift. The 1.4 then took over from the 90hp 2.0

There's no comparison between them power wise, the 1.9 is a dead duck and even the 90hp 2.0 is lively. The 116 is front-wheel-shredding fun!

The new shape is prone to injector and flywheel problems but worth the risk.

It has to be said that Corolla vans tend to have a hard life.
