    Hi All,

I'm trying to get together a basic sewing kit for making clothing. I don't want to spend money on stuff i don't really need but would appreciate some advice what to buy to build up a useful kit

Also if anyone has some good ebay shops that they would recommend that would be really helpful too

    Thanks in advance
    Minty

Sewing machine. Basic machine with swing needle, don't bother about embroidery and other fancy stitches to start with. Zipper foot is very handy, comes with machine.

Good quality, large fabric shears. Small pointed scissors. Ordinary scissors for cutting out paper patters (do not use your fabric scissors) Hand sewing needles, pins, tapemeasure (fabric one). Additional bobbins for machine. Triangle of tailors' chalk. Unpicker (large size). Spools of good quality thread (you will get colours to match materials as you buy it, so a big spool each of black and white will do to start). Maybe a pin cushion, but I find they tend to eat needles, I just use the pin container.

Can't think of anything else. Many people have pet items like perforator wheels for marking fabric, and other gadgets, but you could sew for ever and make anything with the above selection.
