Is the grant calculated in a straight line from your home to the college or by the distance by road? According to Google, i live 44.1km from my college in a straight line (just under the 45km limit) but 50.2km by road. Which one applies?

    Thanks

Could have sworn it was done by radius, i.e. straight line to college. Nonetheless, the form itself doesn't specify, so there's a gigantic loophole.

very few services calculate the distance from one town to another via "as the crow flies", all sign posts around the country are calculated via road travel distances.
the AA route planner calculates them via road travel distances.

The VEC/county council's calculate them via road travel distances.

but yes, your right, the form does not specify this, so there's always the potential for it to change without us knowing :(

If somebody knew for certain id be grateful for this info too. Im living right on the wrong side of the radius boundary which is a pain.

i would assume it goes by road, im starting to get worried now, try ringing the grant office and see what they say maybe?

how did you find out the radius distance, is there a website for this kind of thing? im also 50km from my course but maybe not if i go by radius:(

Google Earth has a ruler tool just clicked college then home. Its rediculously close, one part of the college is within limit and another part isnt. We shall see when CAO comes out i guess. And aye i think youre safer just putting down long distance and see if they challenge you. If you go asking you're more likely to have a problem
