Have you ever been confronted by a member of a religious organisation at your doorstep? Did you shake your head in disgust when confronted with their dodgy teachings of Xenu/Thor/Teapot/FSM? Have you ever blasted a jehovah's witness with piss?

    I want stories:)

I asked two to come in for coffee and tell me about the good word, they looked so unprepared for that response they ran off, never to return.

I am a jehovah's witness, must go and knock on a few doors.

I saw a jehovah's witness get run over by a car the other day. Blood everywhere. I was gonna call an ambulance but then i remembered...:pac:

I know a fella who always ask them "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" and tells them he refuses to sit down and discuss religion until they come back with a solid well researched answer :D

Once, a few years ago, some Mormons knocked in to my house. I was in my dressing gown having just gotten out of the shower. I asked them in and told them to make themselves at home. When they went into the sitting room I followed after the and went into the corner and started playing with my flute!

This really seemed to make the uncomfortable as they couldn't concentrate on what they were saying. After only about one minute of me playing with my instrument they got really annoyed and left. I was only trying play a Hymn I'd recently learned, the ignorant pigs.

I roll my eyes back into my head so only the whites show and raise my arms up and say 'THE DARK LORD KROMDOR TOLD ME OF YOUR ARRIVAL IN A NIGHTMARE - PLEASE ENTER'.

That always sends them on their way... quite fast.

Knock over to my house, I'll play with my flute for you.

What I fail to understand, is their increasing prevalence. I will put up a sign proclaiming "Death to xxxxx" if it persists. Seriously, there should be laws for this sort of carry on:mad:

We get it, god isn't your thing. Now why, next time someone calls to the door just simply state that "God isn't my thing". Most are polite and will leave it at that.

What is it with boards.ie and religion? Its not that pervasive in Irish life...

The Jehovahs use young attractive women to do their house knocking. For religious types, they ain't half manipulative. ;)

I have no problem with people believing in religion. Every single citizen is entitled to their belief. It's this dogmatic preaching that annoys me. I swear, these guys will return. With camping gear:mad: You don't see devout Catholics peddling their "beliefs". The ones I have told to leave was anything but "polite". Maybe some sort of sick repellent is in order? Heavy metal should work.

I actually decided to talk with a jehovahs witness on my doorstep about two years ago, he was quite startled by that but he got through his little prepared answers well enough. Big mistake on my part - to this day he comes running up to say hi when he sees me around town, I don't even know his name. I guess I'm probably the only person he's managed to speak to on his round, imagine if he actually converted someone!

An old friend of mines dad is a vicar, one day when I was at his house they actually turned up at the door - I have no idea what they hoped to achieve.

I had a Jehovah's Witness give me a magazine with the heading "militant atheists are trying to convert you" on the front.

Weren't the JWs doing exactly the same thing?

I had an extreme religious cult at my door several times since christmas. Really pushy and refusing to take no for an answer.

Went by the name of Airtricity. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED FOLKS.

From my experience, the militant atheists are generally worse. There is an overpowering "smugness" associated with atheism. To preach the "wonders" of atheism in a forced manner, you are no better than the militant theists. At least that is how I see it these days.

Do they knock at your door?

Good thing they don't harass you at your doorstep or brainwash your children then

I answered the door in a burka I bought in the Middle East last summer.
They were so scared they forgot to give me a leaflet and left pretty damn quick.

    What an investment! :)

No. But the pot shots get a little stale after a while. I can only take so many jokes about religion before it gets boring. People like holding onto their beliefs. If you aren't preaching, what is the problem? As long as these beliefs stay out of government, there is no real problem. There is other fish to fry.

What militant atheists? Who are you quoting on "wonders"? I must say its pretty difficult to see the absence of belief as a "wonder", or to see it leading to any. I also find it hard to understand how one can "preach" such but anyway...

"Enlightenment" might have been a better word. Of the very few people I discuss this topic with, the majority bash religious belief at every turn. It's just my own subjective observation. I can't speak for the majority of atheists.

    Quite.

In the Name of the Most Holy Trinity, from Whom is all authority and to Whom, as our final end, all actions both of men and States must be referred,We, the people of Éire,Humbly acknowledging all our obligations to our Divine Lord, Jesus Christ, Who sustained our fathers through centuries of trial,........

Had some crazy catholic old biddies throwing religious medals at me one time in college. Was living with two mass going catholic girls at the time who let the old women stand out in the rain. It took a cold blooded atheist like myself to invite the old women in to warm themselves and have a cup of tea.

Different times man. I would blame the government for not removing this reference. 2011 ffs. We need to adopt a france attitude to government.

Two men once called to my door and started talking about God. I told them I already believed in God and they asked "why do you believe?". I think they were trying to convert me to atheism so they could convert me back again.

I'm an atheist but I wouldn't call myself militant, I actually hate talking about it but if someone who is religious and aware of my beliefs wants to discuss the topic with me then they should expect to get their beliefs bashed, if you know someone is an atheist then don't start a conversation on religion with them, simple as :)

Now I'm fully aware there's plenty of atheists who relish trying to sound superior to people with religious beliefs just like there's religious people who think they're superior because of their beliefs but the scientific term for these types of people is assholes, you shouldn't hold it against everyone else though ;)

    back on topic:

Had a couple of Jehovah's at the door a few weekends ago, they asked me about the bible and i quite politely said no thanks I'm an atheist thinking that would be that. Took me 15 to 20 minutes to get rid of them, they read a few vague passages from the bible trying to convince me that one of them said the world was round long before supposed "scientists" discovered it and the other pasage supposedly referred to DNA!

These two guys came to the door the other day and said "We'd like to talk to you about Jesus".

I sighed: "What's he done now?"

    Agreed. Maybe start here?

The Defamation Act 2009 defines a new offence of "Publication or utterance of blasphemous matter",[3] which was held to be required by Article 40.6.1.i. of the Constitution, which states "The publication or utterance of blasphemous, seditious or indecent matter is an offence which shall be punishable in accordance with law".[4]

Back in 2003 in Galway, a couple of smouldering hot blond babes called at the door, and I was all excited until they started talking about the lord and his bits, and the housemate over heard it and came over and tried to convert them into Islam or something and they ran away in disgust.

Another time, waiting at a bus station around Mount St in Dublin, a snotty looking teenager of african descent came up to me and started blabbering about the ways of the lord, his bits, sinners and what not. He was just rambling on and on and on not directly at me, but I was the only person there.

A few months ago, another african looking guy just came upto me and gave me a leaflet about his imaginary overlords and his bits.

I was going to give him my used copy of 'The God Dilusion', but then realised he's probably too thich to read it anyway and decided to save the copy, just in case more blonde babes turn up at my doorstep.
