    hiya,
we're thinking of buying an I-pad 2 for the house, just wondering what is the general opinion of these machines, do ye think they are worth the extra expense for wifi and 3g over just wifi??

    thanks.

I've had one of these for a little over a month and it's a savage machine. Mainly use it for reading and a few apps for the children. I didn't bother with the 3G version as I didn't want another monthly bill. There's Wifi all over the place where I knock about which is sufficient 90% of the time. For the other 10%, I use tethering to the iPhone, but of course that's only useful if you've got an iPhone too.

    Hope that's of some use!

I don't really get your question - but if you're wondering will you be able to connect the iPad's WiFi to the kindle's 3G I doubt it. If the kindle has the ability to tether the 3G data creating a virtual WiFi network then it will, if not it won't.

I'm 99.999% positive that the Kindle has no such feature.

i can categorically say that it wont work, the 3G on kindle is only for whispernet and nothing else.

I have the latest model of kindle and have looked for such features

i have played about with my father-in-law's iPad 2 and well, im heading out at lunch to buy one.

currently using a samsung galaxy tab and the difference is unreal, I personally dont like android for a tablet and iOS is just perfect for what i need, then there is also the battery life which is pretty good for what it does.

I'm really hoping that the store near work has one in stock otherwise im gonna be pretty pissed off for rest of afternoon

If you have an Apple TV box by September there's a feature coming out then which will let you mirror anything on the screen of your iPad 2 straight on to your widescreen. You can stream music, movies, podcasts and photos to Apple TV at the min.

Have a wi-fi only iPad 2 since yesterday, it's great, much better speed-wise than the original iPad and it's light too so you won't get tired of holding it.

I say go for it, you won't be sorry, but they're as scarce as hens teeth at the moment.

I still need to be convinced.

There is also no USB connector, also if I want to watch a movie on my TV, I need to buy another cable, but the trouble then is the battery will die as there is only 1 charge/use slot on the machine. Same can be said when you are using the keyboard option - once that is plugged in - you can't connect it to a monitor. So if you are running low on power your in trouble.

Going to wait a while I think for a fully thought out option - why does APPLE hate USB so much.

BTW I am open to being corrected, these are only observations I have made looking in the Apple Stores in town.

Apple sell an AV adapter that has HDMI and a 30-pin connector, so you can charge/sync and be hooked up to a HDTV at the same time. Apple's keyboard dock has a 30-pin connector for charging/syncing as well. You can also get a Bluetooth keyboard.

I have an iPad and an Apple TV, streaming movies isn't too hard on the battery

Its quite simple. They don't hate USB so much, its the fact that they have agreements with the major music and movie studios, and must be seen to make an effort to curb the illegal transfer of music and film between devices. That's why their Bluetooth implementation is crippled as well.
