ACA to ACCA - advice

I completed the CAP1 exams with ACA but I have just switched to ACCA. I'm exempt from F1-3 and F9 and so I'm considering doing F4, F5 and F6 in December.

The amount of course providers/learning options is insane compared to ACA and I'm wondering what the best options are for the subjects I'm taking?

I'd hope I have a fairly decent grounding in Tax and Law from CAP1 in ACA; I would have done alright in the exams. Would home study be a good idea for those subjects or do you need a lecturer to guide you through exam approach etc...

Also provider wise - is there a better college/lecturer for any of those subjects? I'm working in the city centre in Dublin so I was thinking BPP/DBS/Griffith/Independent Colleges...

And if you've any general advice, that would also be amazing!

Check the ACCA schedule F6 and F4 are scheduled on consecutive days.

For F6 I'd recommend Julie Hawkins, I think she's still in DBS - she's brilliant. And if you've already got a good working knowledge of tax you should be fine.

I had Mick Bristow for F5 in Independent Colleges and thought he was good too. I'm not sure about F4, it's a lot of learning so you probably just need to find someone who isn't going to bore the pants off you. I wouldn't be able to make a solid recommendation on that one.

Just reread your post - maybe a revision class for F4 & F6 would suit you?

I'm thinking of transfering to ACCA as well.

If one had CAP 1 and half of CAP 2 (Auditing & Assurance and Taxation) in ACA complete - how many exams left would you have to do (exemptions?) and how quick could you complete the ACCA qualification?

    Thanks

I'd say all are very doable via self study especially if you have a head start in Tax and Law.

I must admit despite my issues regarding the BPP text detailed elsewhere Tax is very straightforward at F6. Law at F4 is bulky rather than intellectually testing.

I did F4 & F5 in BPP. The lecturer for F5, Garret Mulvin is savage and I definately recommend him... I'm going to him for F7 next term.

I'm undecided on the lecturer for F4 (Claire Coughlan)... I sat the F4 paper today and am confident I passed but I think that is through breaking my balls rather than her teaching, but having said that I found it a tough subject and I assume that it would be hard to teach.

I'm doing F6 & F7 next term, I'll probably do F6 in BPP as its around the corner from work from me, althouth some very negative stuff here about BPP and the tax exam yesterday...
