    Insufficient information in your question.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) are continually doing survey work to keep their information updated.

For example, they run a Household Budget Survey, they collect statistics on travel, inflation etc. They sometimes do their surveys by post, sometimes by door-to-door.

Without further information on the content of the survey, impossible to know what you are talking about.

Marketing companies also call door-to-door for surveys or make cold calls doing research.

Ask them next time they call. I'm sure they have plenty of information sheets/leaflets, and should be happy to talk you through any questions about where they're from and what they're doing.

Most likely it's the quarterly national household survey. Amongst other things it gives a more accurate estimate of the true figure of unemployment.
