Sounds very dodgy alright. I'd check with paypal and see if you have indeed been paid and i'm not sure what else you can do, maybe check with ebay but they are not very helpful anytime i've dealt with them.

Looks like a scam alright - dodgy spelling and grammar in the email supposedly from paypal.
we have decided to place your fund pending as much complaint received from our custormers about some sellers who refused to post an item after they have received clear funds in their account, this gives us concern. Hence,

I googled the dodgy email address sellers_online_trackings@consultant.com and found this http://forums.hexus.net/general-discussion/187385-desperate-attemps-ebay.html
after a few hours I got a faked paypal payment confirmation from the following address:
    sellers_online_trackings@consultant.com

(I reported this to ebay and paypal too)

I just did that and the money is not in my Paypal account:(
I forwarded the email to spoof@paypal.com
Let's see what they going to say about that:)

if it looks like spam, smells like spam then it probably is spam.

check your pay pal account but remember the account used to transfer funds could have been hacked.

Supposed spoof warnings from paypal can also be spoofs too.
Just make sure NEVER to click a link within an email from paypal.
Whatever notification they send you will also show up on your paypal account, so log in there instead to double check.

When you put it back up make sure to exclude countries like Nigeria etc from your shipping list.

    OP here

I had postage only set to EU but that guy claimed initially to be from UK

On the side note I received this email from Ebay support yesterday

MC098 FIB NOTICE: Suspicious Bidder Alert - item #

    Dear ........

Our records show that member kolsare_wtiw recently won one of your items. We'd like to let you know that eBay has cancelled all this member's bids due to issues relating to their account.

As the buyer is no longer a registered user, you are no longer obliged to complete the sale. We recommend that you don't post the item or respond to further emails from the buyer.

If someone asks you to continue with the sale outside of the eBay platform, we strongly recommend you ignore the request. Transactions completed outside of eBay aren't protected by our Feedback system.

In some cases, sellers have reported receiving an email indicating that they have received payment by PayPal, but in fact this is a fake message. We recommend logging into your PayPal account to confirm that payment was actually received. For more information on spoof messages, please go to:

    http://pages.ebay.ie/help/account/reporting-spoof.html

Here's what you should do now:

If you have already posted the item, we suggest you take steps to confirm the payment went through and try to stop postage:

    1) Check whether the payment went through
    2) Stop postage if possible
    3) File an Unpaid Item dispute to get a Final Value Fee credit

    - Check whether the payment went through

If the buyer already sent payment, we recommend you contact the company that was used to send/receive payment to verify whether or not the funds have cleared. If you find that the payment funds are fraudulent, contact your local police as soon as possible. Retain any emails you exchanged with the buyer as the police may need them in order to investigate further. eBay will gladly help the police with their investigations if needed.

    - Stop postage if possible

The postal carrier may be able to stop the delivery. Check their website or return to the post office for further information.

If you sent your package via An Post, you may be able to file a mail fraud complaint. For more information, copy this link into a new browser window:

    http://www.anpost.ie/AnPost

    - File an Unpaid Item dispute to get a Final Value Fee credit

If you didn't receive payment for this item, please file an Unpaid Item dispute in My eBay. When the dispute is processed successfully, your buyer will receive an Unpaid Item strike and you'll receive a Final Value Fee credit.

For more detailed information on Unpaid Item disputes, please copy this link into a new browser window:

    http://pages.ebay.ie/help/tp/unpaid-item-process.html

For additional information about buying and selling safely on eBay, please visit our Safety Centre by copying this link into a new browser window:

    http://pages.ebay.ie/safetycentre

As always, our goal is to keep eBay a safe and reputable place to buy and sell. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Regards,

    eBay Trust and Safety

    Thanks again folks
    Much appreciated:)

Be very careful selling expensive phones over e-bay, I've seen many posts on here where sellers had buyers saying (lying)that all they received was an empty box, paypal always seem to side with the buyer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,108 ✭✭✭RachaelVO

    OP it's total horse sh1t!

Don't send the phone, tell ebay, make an official report, they'll refund your fees, and alert paypal. Send any of the details your received to spoof@paypal.com they'll get back to your quiet quickly.

It's a 419 Scam. Has it written all over it!
