Logic Pro vs Logic Express or...

I'm currently at a bit of an impass in terms of DAW for my home setup

Started with Cool Edit/Adobe Audition but needed more options.
Moved to Cubase, but found it irritating when I moved to a Mac.
Got Logic Express, but simple things aren't very intuitive.

I'm considering buying an M-box for Pro Tools as I've some experience with the program, but I'm already happy with my non digidesign hardware.

So my question is this - how much weaker is Logic Express compared to Logic Pro? Is it worth trying to upgrade to Logic Pro?

I'm just planning to record a few audio tracks and throw on some virtual instrument bits, so nothing too complicated, so should Logic Express do the trick, is it worth learning or should I make the leap away from it?

Stuff like finding how to tap in the tempo for the metronome took an age to find, I expected it to be just a right click away. I'd have already freaked out and made the leap if it weren't for all the PT vs Logic battles in various forums, both have so many sworn users.

For what you want Logic Express should be fine.

BTW you no longer have to use digi hardware to run Pro Tools 9, it will work with any Core Audio interface. Might be worth looking at.

Rough rule of thumb is, Logic for midi/programming, Pro Tools for Audio/Editing.

I have both programs and favour Pro Tools, but that is only becasue I am used to it. Both DAWs are amazing tools, it really comes down to personal preference.

I haven't used Logic Express but usually handy shortcuts like tap tempo and stuff of that sort is the difference between the full software package and the LE package.

ProTools 9 does not require Digidesign hardware, so don't let that influence your decision.

Dang. It's the same with Final Cut which I learned on and then Final Cut Express which is prrrretty similar but has a few handy bells snipped off the front end and pro export stuff taken off the back end. I assumed it'd be something similar alright.

Once you reckon it's the biz I may just persist.

Yeah, I did hear that alright, but it's really expensive when it seems Logic will do the work for me. If going the Pro Tools way I was going to just get an mbox and grab PT8 from a friend. I was willing to cut down on the room mics etc. I was planning to use and just get a two input mbox, so, not toooo much damage, but only half the fun.

Thanks guys, I'll look into Logic again. Maybe this time I'll find the damn tap tempo button! :o
