Apparently it is coming to the US first. I'm sure this is only a method the BBC are using to see what Territory shows the most interest for the iPlayer, like Hulu have been doing sense day 1.

Yeah maybe, although I'm sure they already know the amount of non-UK IP addresses accessing the BBC iPlayer site. Also if they're offering invites I think it'll go ahead. I'd agree though many media streaming services use the "we will be coming to your country, check back again soon" divert as a way of gauging potential demand.

What would concern be more is what will be made available on the iPlayer Worldwide service, compared to the UK only version. It would be disappointing if it only offered a very stripped down selection.

I'm sure all the major programs will be there, like Top Gear, Dr Who, the soaps etc, but we'll most likely have to pay for it.

The iPlayer is one of the best, if not the best, Catch up service around. 90% of what they broadcast is put on, including major films, with the option to download the video for offline viewing, HD content and even a guide to let you know what will and what won't be put on the player. And they offer mobile access. They offer a great service.

I'd be very surprised if this contained the exact same content as what UK viewers would see. I would guess that sport, movies etc. wont be available for international viewers.

Channel 4 do charge for the movies, it's basically just their own shows that are international. If the BBC was on par with the Channel 4 service it would be fantastic given BBCs content.

Channel 4's 4OD and Film4OD is slightly different to BBC's offering. BBC offer movies on the iPlayer solely for Catch Up purposes. Not every film they show is added, and is only up for a very limited time, for free of course. Film4OD is a rental service, offering newly released films to rent online for something like £2.99.

I don't the Worldwide iPlayer will have films added. As i said, films are added to the UK iPlayer as a catch up service. The Worldwide iPlayer will be more of a means to watch BBC content online, at a price of course.

4OD is great in its own right, as Channel 4 archive all of their own produced shows online for free viewing. I don't think there is any other Network in the world that does the same.
