Looking forward to this one. Evening kick off due to my location but tis also a long weekend...

Think Leitrim have enough to win it. Get over Rosco and with the way Mayo/Galway are playing Nestor could be making the trip to Carrick....

Ha yeah as long as Leitrim win I don't care if they bounce the ball in AFL style!

if leitrim win the final will not be in carrick as its not big enough, it will be in neutral venue and leitrim always pick the hyde to play their finals.......1993, 2000

roscommon have an amazing record in carrick, never been beat in the championship, leitrim put out a very inexperienced team last time out against sligo while this roscommon team despite their age (8 or 9 of the lads starting on sunday are under the age of 24) have a wealth of experience already in terms of minor all-irelands, connacht u-21s titles, sigerson, club all-ireland finals, connacht senior championships

i can see it being a draw honestly, conor beirne caused sligo all sorts of problems and our half back line looks about as solid as a house of cards in a hurricane :(

Really looking forward to this. Love the Connaught championship and when Mayo and Galway aren't involved you can really enjoy the build up without fear of a roasting - mind you neither look too exciting this year.

We Rossies would love a crack at back to back Connaught titles but won't take Leitrim for granted after that great performance against Sligo. Roll on Sunday and the trip to Carrick.

Will be no blanket defence negative tactics in this game just two youthful sides playing free flowing football without any fear of losing.

I hope the winners of this game goes on & wins the Connacht title as Mayo (42) Galway (44) have won enough.

Seems I'm the only one here lookin forward to a Leitrim win...

Based on what I saw of the Sligo match and reports from the league meetinn earlier this year I think Leitrim should have enough :D

Though was it Maxwell or Mulligan that got sent off against Sligo and are they banned?

Funny, I read recently that Roscommmon, with 20 or so titles, are statistically the most sucessful county in the Connacht championship. Sligo, with a slightly larger population only have 3, one of which was awarded in the committee room. The 1920s was the last decade that Roscommon havent won any provincial titles. An astounding record really!

If your a Leitrim/Connacht man you should really know the difference? Mulligan is the play making excellent free taker (as good as Shine for Roscommon), Maxwell is the 6ft+ full forward or midfielder that has now retired.

Mulligan got two yellow cards so he's availble for Sunday.

    both teams unchanged

    roscommon: G Claffey; S McDermott, P Domican, N Carty; I Kilbride, D Keenan, D Ward; M Finneran, K Mannion; S O'Grady, K Higgins, C Cregg; C Devanney, S Kilbride, D Shine.

    leitrim: C McCrann; D Reynolds, R Gallagher, P Maguire; B Prior, G Reynolds, W McKeon, T Beirne, D Lowe; P Brennan, E Mulligan, R Lowe; A Croal, C Beirne, J Glancy.

both keenan and cregg picked up injuries in recent challenge game but are picked to start, ward had a great game against new york, will be much tougher for him this time around

Im driving down to carrick with a packet of Kleenex to dry that bloody camera lense!!

Leitrim down by 8 points at half time, game well and truly over despite the unruly breeze Leitrim had to deal with in the 1st 35 minutes.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,874 ✭✭✭Brain Stroking

Terrible breeze down there, leitrim had a lot of possession but it's impossible to be direct playing against that. I fancy Leitrim to win back a lot of possession in this half as Roscommon out the field are woeful on the ball. Don't expect Shine and Kilbride to get as much ball this half. 8 points may be too big a scoreline to turn around but i expect Leitrim to win this half.

Maybe if the camera was in the middle of the field, rather than on the 45 yard line, it wouldn't be getting so wet. :D

Poor enough game tbh. Roscommon by far the better team, the leitrim forwards don't seem to be able to take a shot for goal at all.

Very disappointed with leitrim today. Thought they would have put it up to roscommon more seeing as its been a long time since the rossies played last. Wouldn't bet against a second connacht title in a row for them now.

Pity Leitrim weren't better - 2pts in 3/4 hour during the game was fairly poor. Roscommon played quite well. Hunted in packs, mid field were very able and forwards were strong in posession - a good team.

Not a second of injury time - doesn't happen very often.

Looking at a very good Roscommon side. Would beat the other two.

Not a second?... He blew it up 3 seconds early.

I'm not happy, I stupidly did over 27.5 points and was 4 short there.

There is at least 5mins wasted every half with all the messing about with frees and the likes and the usual 2/3mins is normally too short.... and then he adds on nothing

Crocked game, last time I do points totals as too often most of the half is wasted and you don't get a faire 35mins of play at it.

How did Leitrim beat Sligo?... they are truly pathetic. Wind or no wind they were clueless in the first half and coughed up possession so easy.

    Weren't much better with it

What rte stats call 'limitations'.. Brolly calls atrocious!

Conditions looked awful and Ros still seemed to stroll.

I thought Letrim might improve in the second with the wind as they did have a lot of posseision in 1st half. Problem was they were clueless one they got to the half forward line and were closed down and duely punished by Ros when they couldnt make decisions (as well as some comical passing!)..

Wow soo disappointed with that.. thought we'd at least put it up to the rossies.

I'm bitter. Hope Galway/Mayo beat ye in the final... :D

A wise man wouldnt bet on 27+ points looking at those teams and that weather.

Leitrim goalie had a good game. Two great save and brave under the high dropping ball.

Also had a busy day keeping the ball kicked out to the Roscommon men!:pac:

leitrim were awful, i am sure they are better than they showed today though, lots of young guys so they will be back, roscommon especially after half-time were disciplined without being spectacular, kilbride improves with every game, he is a top class forward now, roscommon badly need to keep him fit (he is made of glass :o), i still wouldnt be convinced with that back-line at all, a better team than leitrim team would have punished roscommons mistakes in the back during the first half

anyway onwards and upwards, final in the hyde in 5 weeks, its a decade since we beat either mayo or galway in connacht, we will go in as massive underdogs of course, thats to be expected (mayo beat us by 20 points last time out in 2009 and galway beat us by 16 points in 2008), the media and neutrals see the real connacht final in two weeks time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,104 ✭✭✭blowitupref

I was expecting a free flowing exciting game today however i suppose the poor weather put a end to that? Roscommon won all the key battle's all over the field & in Senan Kilbride,Donal Shine the Rossies have two fine old fashioned forwards. Will be hard for Leitrim to lift themselves after this but i hope they can get a win or two in the Qualifiers

As for the Connacht Final whoever wins the Galway v Mayo game will be odds on favourites for the title however i hope Roscommon win it as the other two have won enough.

Would I be right in saying that the typical Leitrim fan would rather Galway or Mayo win the Connacht title at Roscommon's expense? It's just I have detected quite a lot of hatred towards Roscommon on behalf of Leitrim fans over the years.

Real GAA people like me who stood in the rain watching that were very happy to hear the final whistle - even we Rossies. I don't think players being beaten by 12 points in awful conditions should be subjected to three or four more minutes and points just to win you money:mad::mad:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,085 ✭✭✭wow sierra

Was very impressed with the Roscommon performance today. Granted Leitrim were poor but Roscommon got some great scores in the conditions and harried and faught for the ball well. Plenty of room for improvement but Mayo and Galway not at their best so we are quietly hopeful for the final.

Looking forward to seeing the TV coverage - I believe what I thought was a fabulous pass from Higgins to Shine for the goal, was in fact a fluffed attempt at a point:rolleyes: The interception was still excellent anyway. Senan Kilbride is a class player - nice to see him getting a bit more recognition outside the county.

Great overall team performance - well done lads and best of luck in the final.

As someone who was a goalkeeper (in the loosest sense of the word) in years gone by, can I say that McCrann's second save was as good as you will see this year! Top drawer!

it must be said that LM were muck. they caught Sligo with their pants down and their performance was dire-how moran can have claims as a top coach after the last 3 years with leitrim, 1 championship win, and his team still disimproves year on year is beyond me; abalanced media would surely have seen through him at this stage but events last week show that a lot of our GAA correspondants treat managers with kid gloves for fear of missing the scoop. Their decision making and handling was very bad;amount of turnovers even in comparison to Roscommon was very high. He is a great man for an excuse tho, this year it's emigration and player turnover, last year it was P McGuinnessRIP and 2 years ago it was the man writing the program notes mentioning Roscommon never lost in carrick!!! I for one hope this lad is kept on in LM for many years to come grin.gif

    Senan Kilbride

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,403 ✭✭✭✭rossie1977

kilbride won man of the match on rte

going back to moran, he isn't that bad of a manager, he got mayo to an all-ireland final and they haven't been anywhere close since, in leitrim he simply hasn't the pick, watching back the full match on rte player if the teams swapped full-forwards yesterday that match would have been alot closer especially in the first half, during that period leitrim missed simple opportunites to score

    What a load of rubbish.

Leitrim's population is less then 30,000, with Galway City coming in over 60,000 I'd hate to see how we'd do with the City based clubs only.

How has his team ''disimproves''....?. Two Connachts in their history, lowest population in Ireland, ooh ya they're defo going down hill these past three years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,036 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

you're entitled to your opinion gilbert, but i've seen leitrim play different opposition over the last several years and it's clear to me that the '11 team is nowhere near as good as the teams produced by des dolan in '07 and '08. there is no coherent game plan or method to their play. excuses like population are bogus IMO-there hasn't been massive depopulation in Leitrim in recent years indeed it would be comparible with other counties like Longford and Roscommon who are no worldbeaters but are still improving. Moran with Mayo in 96 had been in AI final in 94 and biggest ting he and J morrison brought was coloured armbands and other phycobabble BS......there are good club players like Croal and Mulligan etc there and he should be getting more out of them to justify the cotinued cost of his tenure
