Clip of the day: 1,400 people turn up to a birthday advertised on Facebook
Over a thousand people turned up to a German girl’s birthday party after it was advertised on Facebook.
15,000 people had RSVP’d while 1,400 arrived at the suburban house making it look more like a summer music festival.
This most recent phenomenon continues to highlight the power of social media.

I have my doubts as to how genuine these events are i.e. they were orchestrated rather than something that happened. The German one in particular seemed to have a lot of "event grade" security and barriers in place.

I have put a few public events up on Facebook that I wish were as well attended!

In any case, you can set up an event as a private event that is limited to those who have been invited and you can further restrict those to being able to invite somebody else (thus limiting the exposure on FB).
