    Hey

Quick question. Im repeating this year and I dont think the English exam is gonna go my way this time.

I got a B3 in HL last year but Im not feeling good about it this year and will probably get a low C.

My question is Ive already gotten a B3 so wouldnt I have already met the requirements to do English in the Arts as Ive met requirements for maths and Irish (for general entry) already?

    Thanks :)

There are no English requirements to undertake the arts course! Well there weren't when I applied anyway!

    For last year: http://www.ucc.ie/calendar/arts/art002.html#EN

Lots of subjects have particular requirements but English doesnt seem to be one of them.

I am (hopefully) graduating this September, so three years ago. You don't need any particular grade in the English leaving cert exam to take the subject in Arts. English is completely different in University so I wouldn't really worry about it too much! Whether or not you will enjoy/be capable of undertaking English at third level is something that you will figure out pretty quickly in first year Arts. :)

English is one of my passions and I would be gutted if I had missed the requirement this year but met it last year.

Thanks very much guys! Was worrying!

I do english and I don't think you need to get a certain mark in it for Arts! Good Luck!

    From the UCC website :

    Irish School Leavers:

HC3 in two subjects and passes in four other subjects at H or O level in the Leaving Certificate from: Irish, English, another language and three other subjects recognised for entry purposes. There are also specific requirements for students wishing to study particular subjects, e.g. languages or mathematics.

Below are the Irish Leaving Certificate points that were required for the last four years.

    CAO Points 2007 - 2010
    Year CAO points
    2007 340
    2008 335
    2009 360
    2010 350

So OP - There are no minimum requirements for English, as in, getting a particular higher level grade in it, I think that's just for Maths and foreign languages/Irish. Get your points and pass your English exam (hope you do really well BTW) and you'll be good to go in August !!!:P

Best of luck in the rest of your exams :)

Thank you so much Sweetface and to others above.

Youve definately put my mind at ease. Was panicking. This year has been bad english wise for many reasons. Did paper 1 there today and was rushed and panicked in it. I think the comprehension and question b was ok but hated my short story. So rushed

I certainly hope to finally get what I want .
Hopefully History and Ag Science will push me up!:)

They changed that one - it used be Irish, English and Maths!
