What is stopping me stealing?

Thought I'd throw this one out there to the good folk of AH.

I got an email a few weeks ago from an online clothes shop saying they have received my order, then another saying they have received my payment, then another saying my item has been dispatched and sent to the following address and can be tracked etc the usual stuff if you order something online.

The only thing is I've never visited this site ever, and definitely never ordered anything, but its a legit order. Basically some woman in england ordered a dress online but used my email address (only my email address, I checked everywhere to make sure no payments taken from me). So I was sent reservation numbers, tracking stuff, even the name and address where it is being sent in england. She would have received none of this and is basically hoping that the dress turns up at her door. What i am asking is what is stopping me emailing the shop back with reservation numbers etc and asking can i change the address where it is being shipped to here in Ireland or maybe elsewhere in england.

Obviously I am not going to steal the dress, firstly its already been shipped, but mainly because i'm not really bothered and its more a hypothetical would you? question.

What is stopping you stealing? The prospect of getting caught, convicted and thrown in jail .............oh wait, no you would never go to jail, you'd get a suspended sentence. I guess the only thing stopping you stealing is yourself.

Presumably the lady paid for it by some means, will eventually see the payment details from the credit/debit card and follow up with the company. They'll look into their records and follow her payment, which will lead to your email address.

Now, if they wanted to, they could go try and find you by legal means. You are not anonymous online. But, I guess depending on the price of the garment they'd offer to resend/refund her and forget about you.

Aside from that, not being branded a thieving git is about all that's stopping you :p

The "its already been shipped part" is a joke. I've no intention or never had any intention of doing this, i was just curious if someone with no morals were to do it.

PS the dress was also ugly and not in my size :D

How do you know you're not into cross-dressing?

Start with a handbag, just hang it from your shoulder and see how special it makes you feel ;)

Before you know it you'll be wondering whether or not to splash out on bigger chicken fillets to fill that bra...

Yeah that kind of thing, would they bother trying to find you? she is the one that gave my email address to begin with. I'm still getting newsletters and offers and stuff from the shop. I wonder if she buys something again will she use mine again. If she buys something online surely shes computer savvy enough to have her own email address?? I just though it was all kinda weird using someone elses email then get the stuff sent to herself at her own address.
