Ford Focus 1.8 TCDI 115BHP

    Hi all

    The other half is looking for a 2010 focus. We have found the above model that is within our price range but unfortunately I don't know much about cars. The car is a Uk import (as are most 2010 focuses that we have seen) but unlike most of the models available it is a 1.8, all of the other's are 1.6. The dealer we saw said they discontinued the 1.8 model in preference for the 1.6 but didn't know why.

    Does anyone have any experience of the 1.8 or know why it was discontinued, was there any problems with it. I have ran the car through motorcheck and it all looks ok, we are about to buy it but just want to make sure there is no obvious problem with the 1.8's first!!

    It is an older engine than the 1.6. It is a decent well proven one though and arguably has less to go wrong than the 1.6 and possibly the more reliable of the two. My mother drives a 1.6 and I have a 03 version of the 1.8TDCi. Not a huge difference in power either way. The 1.6 has lower emissions, better MPG and a nicer rev range being a 16v, and that is why it was prefered over the 1.8.

    I have 140k miles on mine. Troublefree except for a dual mass flywheel, and these don't seem to fail with the same frequency on newer cars (and both engines have them anyway, so it isn't a deciding factor!).
