How many hours can you work if you are claiming the dole?

Hi Folks.

Quick question. (apologies if am asking a dumb question here).

I may soon lose my job.

Its been quite a while since I claimed the dole, can I work any hours at all and still claim the dole.

The reason I ask is that I am trying to keep all areas open.
Therefore I am applying for part time (evening jobs) as well as full time jobs.
I am also looking at jobs that are a few hours at the weekend. Etc etc.

By the way, the reason I am looking at I have a mortgage and a new born baby (crèche fees are to be considered) so I need to be bringing as much income into the house as I can.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

Who can I talk to about this?

I do not want to fiddle and I want everything to be above board.

You can work up to 4 days a week and claim for the days you dont work. Make sure when you apply for jobs you say you would prefer to work anything other than 5 x 4hr shifts, if you work that you will get nothing.

You may be entitled to apply for FIS if your new part time job and you JSB payment are less than €505 per week.

Also you may be able to apply for mortgage interest relief.
