The first pronunciation is correct, but some people pronounce it differently, which is just hilarious.

In one of the shops at UCD they have signs up for special offers: "sambo + granola bar + coffee = €3.99" or similar. I'd never heard "sambo" before, couldn't see it on the shelves, and had to ask the staff what that meant. They meant "sandwich" - so why not say "sandwich", then?

(I really don't get this Dublin tendency to truncate words and slap an "-o" on the end. "Philo", "Keano", "Sambo", and so on. :o )

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

truncate words and slap an "-o"

    Sambo
    Samb

    Sambitches!

You better that put that in your poll, OP. It's the long form of Dublin slang for sandwiches.
