    Hi All,
Im not very computer literate (as you'll soon see), and am seeking any helpfull advice on this matter...

I've just installed Windows Internet Explorer 9 and it (windows) suggested that i delete Java to increase computer speed.
I have a faint recollection that I might have originally downloaded this as part of Itunes (but maybe not!)
Basically.....what the HELL is Java.....should i delete it, and if so....will it's removal affect any other programmes performance.
    Thanks in advance.

It's found the Java Internet Explorer Addon and is advising to disable it.

Nope, not a part of itunes :)

It will launch a Java 'virtual machine' in the event your internet browser needs to run some Java code from a website that my utilize it.
This will allow that website to run on any machine (PCs, Macs, Linux etc) as long as they have Java install....'cross platform'

You can see it in action here
    www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

I'd remove it to be honest. You'll unlikey need to use it. Only in the rare occasion will it rear it's head, some revenue sites and that.

To be honest, its just another piece of software that can be leveraged against you're pc....it has security updates most months.

Hi, The pop up says a new version of Java is available and on occasion I have allowed it in the wish the pop-ups would stop. They did not. I got rid of one going through the uninstall process but when I go through the same process for the other version it remains on my harddrive.? No error message comes up.

The Java Update pop ups are normal, just visit www.java.com and download Java which will update it manually and stop the pop ups. It important to keep Java installs up to date for security purposes. I disagree with said above Java is not needed, many people will come accross a Java application/website needing it these days. A neccesary evil I'm afraid for most!

Unfortunately Java updates don't delete older versions from the computer, so you should remove those.
