If you like the civic coupes you should get a normal 1.6 as the VTI has a high performance engine. Its a 1.6 engine also but its a DOHC VTEC. Unless you know what this is then stay away from a VTI its a seriously quick car, your insurance will be more expensive and it will drink petrol.
best bet is to get a standard 1.6 coupe.

They are a very good car, but it's very hard to find one that hasn't be abused and driven by muppets. Try and find as standard a car as possible, original alloys, no stickers, no bean can exhaust etc
If you find a good one they will give you very little trouble. but buying one that's been modded is asking for trouble.

Always had a soft spot for electron blue vti coupes. Hard to find a clean one at this stage though. The majority of them were uk imports so rust can be abit of an issue on them, you'll see failry quickly for yourself if you take a look at an import. I wouldnt even consider the 1.6 lsi sohc, get a vti once you can insure it properly

Their as easy as any other honda to get parts for and not too expensive if its not main dealer prices.

I own an SiR, and it is a quick car...but by no means is it a seriously quick car...OP, don't mind this person, VTEC cars aren't that quick and they aren't that bad on petrol!

Blast from the past... I had one years ago. Regarding reliability, they're like a Swiss watch.

Speaking as someone who used to drive a VTEC, that is like telling a junkie to stay off heroin.

If you want to save fuel buy a diesel.

    Just to clear that up.

I used to drive a Honda Accord 2.0 insurance 600
I now drive a Honda civic standard car quote was 700-900.
    Modified car quote 1100-1700

Parts are not bad in price if you shop about and avoid the dealership.

Reliability depends on the car you bought and who maintained it. Buy a good clean car and it will only have minor problems.

I recommend getting a mechanic to check the car out as allot of these cars are more abused than a single mother in a Magdalene laundry

As for performance its no rocket ship but it has safe predictable power and handling.

Fuel consumption will be similar to a 2.0 I regularly see 32MPG and I drive like a granny.

Reliable? I've never seen a car take so much solid abuse over a 2 year span and still run sweetly afterwards. They're probably about as reliable as it gets!
As said above, buy the right one though, and that's the biggest challenge of this car, finding the right one!
