Will government renew deposit guarantee

    Does anyone know if this will happened and if not will it trigger a run on banks in Ireland. :(

    The government will be renewing the Eligible Liabilities Guarantee scheme for another six months (to December 2011) - the Commission have approved the extension.

    Note that the ELG is not a deposit guarantee scheme. It guarantees specifically named debt issued by the covered institutions. Deposits are covered under a different scheme, which has no expiry.
