Full carbon recommendations

    I'm hoping to upgrade from a Trek 1.2 Alpha to a full carbon in a few weeks. My budget is as far under €2000 as possible, but €2000 max.

    At the moment, I'm looking at the 4.5 Madone because I absolutely love Treks. :) Problem with Treks is they're the same price all over the country so there's no pricing around.

    From looking at pics, I'm starting to like Cube, Felt, Cervelo, Pinarello and Specialized but I don't know how they perform.

    Thanks for any suggestions/recommendations.

    If it was me I'd be leaving my hard earned spondoolocks with www.canyon.com - in particular the model linked which IMO is cracking value

    Thanks to you both.

    The 8.0 looks slightly better for €100 extra. 150 grammes lighter! Do Canyon have any Irish dealers? Can't find any on the website. Although I did just find this.

    Thanks again.

    You order direct from the canyon website, be careful with the frame size calculator though it seems to concentrate on your inseam length and usually recommends a frame one size to small.
    It recommended a 52cm for me but I went with my usual size of 54 and it's perfect, love it.
    You're welcome to have a look if you want, based in Drogheda.

    Current bike is 54 and the site recommended a 54 as well so it got that one right.

    Thanks a million for the offer, living in South Tipp though...

    €2000 with a euro change. Centro are the Irish distributers for Treks and they name the price.

    Centro dont name the price, they could not care what price the shops sell them at, you can get a 2011 5.2 in Omagh for £2100 and a bottle, cage and cateye computer thrown in. I have seen two local lads with ones, thats leaving the shop with about £40.00 profit...

    Whats your background / age / type of cycling? 2k can get some really nice models, maybe at the bottom of a family with upgrade options.

    @jamescon
    I had thought that Centro were the ones who dictate the price, but £2100 is very cheap for the 5.2. Omagh's a bit far for me though, would prefer to stay in Munster, bar the Canyon website which looks very promising.

    @aquanaut
    I'm 18, cycling since August with a local club. Hoping to do the RoK this year and the SK Waterford 160k in August. Don't think I'll get time to upgrade before the RoK. I'm also interested in starting racing next year.

    What models did you have in mind? Thanks.

    I've a Canyon Ultimate CF which you'd be welcome to take a look at and I'm in Cork City if you think that it'd be worth the trip.

    I have a recollection of seeing something here on boards a few months ago about some guy selling 4.5 Madones for a pretty good price. If you do a quick search you should be able to find more info on this.

    Yeah, that'd be great. I'm actually starting the Leaving Cert tomorrow so I possibly should have my mind elsewhere... :D But maybe we can arrange something after the 20th? Thanks.

    I was looking at the orbea onix 105. Carbon frame, aksium wheels and shimano 105 groupset, fsa crank and look keo pedals. Apparently on special at moment for 1550 bucks. Not sure how good these are as i'm no expert but it seems a good deal. Maybe someone else on here will know more about them.

    Hi have a look at the below links, i see you are based in munster, there is a list of dealers on their website, one in fermoy co. cork if that is near you or blarney. Had a look at one this week in Dublin nice bike worth a look

    The bikes are getting some good reviews, thinking about one myself.

    I got an Orbea Onix about 6 months ago and I am very happy with it. I'm no expert and don't have anything to compare it to as its the first decent and new bike I'v owned but would recommend it. I shoped around before I bought and it was the best value I could find.

    I bought from Stagg cycles in Lucan, Dublin. The lads here are sound to deal with, nothing a problem and they gave me a good trade in. Also lifetime warrenty on frame and forks.

    With a €2,000 budget I'd go for

    http://www.evanscycles.com/products/cannondale/supersix-105-team-2011-road-bike-ec025312

    Or cheaper, better components, but probably a slightly inferior frame,

    With a 2k budget you could consider the Cube Agree Gtc Race from www.cyclesuperstore.ie - dont have one myself but have read some great reviews - very close to pulling the trigger on one myself but leaning towards a Scott CR1 (because I am twice your age so wanted something more relaxed)

    Although I'm still waiting for it to be delivered after over a month, I'm after buying a Wilier Izoard.
    They're available from €1550 up to €2900 depending on the spec. They get good reviews, sadly can't give my own 2 cents on it yet
    Was a toss up between that and the Cube Agree mentioned above

    Thinking of going for the Canyon Ultimate CF 8 myself. What is the full bike weight, website says 7.10 it but is that just the frame?

    If the frame was 7kgs the whole bike would weight 14 :D The frame alone should be around the 1kg mark.

    Onix is great. I love it. Got the full Ultegra groupset and Mavic Kysriums for 2250 last year. Without the Kysriums, would come in around your budget.
