I am looking to make some clothes at home. Could anyone please suggest the best type of fabric to make circle skirts/shift dresses from. My research suggests slightly stretchy materials but with limited fabric shops in Dublin I will have to order online and I'm not too sure about which types of fabrics to choose

    Thanks in advance

Presumably you will be working from a pattern, in which case suggested fabrics are given on the pattern envelope. Even if you are going 'freehand' you could check similar designs in pattern books or on the web and see what fabrics are recommended for the styles you are interested in.

If you haven't much experience of sewing I would suggest you use simple cotton or polycotton fabric to start. Stretchy material can require special methods and sewing needles, fabric that frays easily can fall to bits as you are working. Neither of these are issues once you have some experience, but start with something simple.
