Civ 5 and any of the Total War series are the obvious ones; both are excellent. Sins of a Solar Empire is the current real-time space strategy king and well worth its price.
C&C Generals is very like AoE in the modern era and is great fun. You could prob download it cheap off steam too.
Didnt find Ruse that great a game even though it got good reviews. World in Conflict I also found was okay, although its very contricted in that its heavily story driven.
