Temporary Analgesic Fillings

Had an awful toothache and went to the dentist last week. Gave me antibiotics but toothache was still severe when I visited today. He did a partial job as the anaesthetic didn't stop it from hurting like a bad thing.

He put in a temporary partial filling that smelled (and tasted) like oil of cloves....UGH!

I have to wait until next week for next bit of work.

Do these sort of fillings help at all? I never heard of them before and the anaesthetic is starting to wear off. I feel like I have an ice cold brick jammed in my mouth.

(He told me to take painkillers until next week)
