Need Architect Plans

    Hi All,
Maybe someone can help. I have a site (1/2 acre) in Kildare and wish to get architect plans drawn up straight away. I have googled and have haven't found anyone jumping out at me, most architects seem to be involved in large projects. I have decided to go with an architect instead of an engineer to draw the plans, I really want something different but at the same time the plans need to be ok to pass Kildare cc rules. I feel an architect can add something to house plans that an engineer can't.
Does anyone know any good architect for one off housing that has dealt with Kildare cc. I want to get started in the next few weeks.
    Thanks

If you have time to do a bit of research I suggest you have a look at recent years AAI Awards. Available in any good bookshops.

Full listing of recent years' winners are here:

    http://www.architecturalassociation.ie/awards/

There you will find the best one-off houses that have been completed in the country in recent years. All of the projects listed should be visible on the architects own websites.

(My own company is not listed in there....yet! so I don't think I am being unfairly biased)

Check recent planning applications online from Kildare County Council.
You will see plenty of one off house planning applications and with some research you should find a local Architect whose designs you may like

the riai website has a search tool somewhere for finding architects in whatever area. i wouldnt worry too much about what they publish, there is always(well there was) a lot more work through an office that gets put on public display. dont be afraid to ask for past examples of work

You could try searching for house plans online... they are all done by architects, and you can choose the ones that suit you best. You pay around 250-2000 dollars for them, but thats LESS than you would pay an architect.

you should get a registered architect.
prices have come down and they are worth every penny.
if your borrowing money from a bank they will want know that their money is being spent properly.
you will need someone to sign off the building in the end.
there are a hundred reasons why you should use a registered architect.

OP have you seen any houses that you like in Kildare?
Why not choose an Architect whose work you like. If you look around you may well find examples that you like. It should be easy enough to find out who designed the houses you like.

Ensure your Designer has full PI insurance. Ask family and friends for recommendations and shop around, get at least 3 written quotes.

Firstly its great to see that you actually want an Architect rather than just need one which means you must be fully aware of what a good architect can add to the design and living environment of the completed project.
Firstly get a registered architect with PI Insurance, if they comply with both of these you are more than likely starting off the right way.
Secondly try and get somebody who you like, both personally and stylistically. There is no point going to somebody who only does contempoarary style design if you want a more traditional styled house or vice versa.
Thirdly try and make sure that they have worked in the area before and have experience in lodging a planning application in that area as each local authority have their own little nuances.
Fourthly, best of luck and try to enjoy the process

Im not sure if you are still looking, but i know of an architect who has recently been working in Kildare on an extension. He has done some work for some friends and family and they have all been very happy. Apparently he offers great rates too! If you would like his details, i can get them for you and you can pm me.
