ok so the nightmare happened , dropped iphone 4 into a swimming pool, dont ask! phone wont power on at all, tried drying it out etc. Decided id try connecting it to laptop, and lo and behold it powers on but only gets to the "connect to itunes" screen. message in itunes says iphone cannot be used unless it is restored. if…

the iphones not showing up as a removable drive in my computer,

You could try to kick it out of the restore loop using tinyumbrella, but it sounds to me like it's gone. sorry about that.

Or you could try jailbreak it (if it's not already) and use iFunBox to pull the photos off.
