My NCT expires on 20 August and my test is on the 12 August. I was told that it this not matter so long as I applied had applied for it before the test, others told me it did not matter as my test is a week before it expires, but I have been recently informed that it has to be done before the test date.

Is it easy to get a date for the NCT and how much does it cost? do you have to register afresh or just give them a call?

You're grand. So long as you have a valid NCT on the day you're good to go!

that seems to be the common misperception. My DI told me that if it expires in August then I cannot do the test.

It's a valid disc as required under the Road Traffic Act, there should be no problem. Unless the disc is 20th AUG 2010.

To get a test date it's as simple as NCT.ie and your away...

As others said, that makes no sense. Sure if that was the case, then even if your NCT ran out on the 30th of a month, you couldn't use it on the first of that month.

Your DI is talking rubbish imo.

If your ADI is giving you false information like this I'd be concerned about what else they might be telling you. Maybe get a new ADI.
