I'm on Jobseekers Allowance. Recently I was contacted by a former colleague to ask if I would interested in part time work. Of course, I said yes and asked him to pass on my details.

I got a phone call to meet this guy and and did so. Went to where the work would take place and walked around. I was asked to sign a form for him which I did and he asked me to submit a sample of work to him, which is paper based.

Did everything asked of me, spent three days going to the location (two days he never turned up and I had to go back home, round trip of 100 miles) and third day, on the after taking the document off me, I asked him how many days a week he might need me for, he said that he didn't need me. I explained what I had been told and he gave money at me "for my trouble" as I threatened to go to his client who I had been introduced to.

I called into my social welfare office and told one of the staff what happened. She gave me a look and I asked her had she heard of this happening before in the construction game. Nodded her head and said yes.

I wasn't asked to sign any paperwork and I have just received the "prove your looking for work" form, which I have no problem filling as I have the necessary proof. But the looking for part time work question is worrying me as it asks have you been offered part time work and I answer yes, it says "Please give reasons why you did not take up this work".

I wanted to work, reported to this lady in the social welfare office what happened but I have no documentary evidence to back up the facts and I want to be completely honest.

I know this is long winded but I am sick with worry. I did everything I believe I'm supposed to, found work, did it, got shafted mind, reported it to the local office including the fact that I had received money and trying to figure out if I've done enough.
