Doubling up on part-time jobs?

    Hi all,
Recently started working in a retail shop, but only contracted for 8 hours. I'm a college student so the 8 hours will get me by for the summer but I'd have loved more hours, say 16-30.
I've seen the odd 4/8 hour job advertised in other retail shops, and was thinking about applying and working the two jobs if I got it.
Only thing is, I'd be terrified they'd clash hours horribly, and I don't want to get off on the wrong foot with my new job by asking to rearrange my hours constantly.
Does anyone have experience of having two part-time jobs, and has it proved successful, or a big ould mess?

A big mess. I take it you're on a flexi contract? You're hours are going to inevitably clash because you can't really set yourself aside some hours each week. Knuckle down and you might get more than 8 hours eventually. Look forward to people going on holidays and off sick - you can lay siege to their hours then!

i work 3 part time jobs to make up a full time job, but couldnt do it without all the hours being set, it does'nt leave much room to be flexible. I think it would be difficult to just hope they wont clash, if your current job has set hours i'd imagine it would help as it gives you the option to work around those hours. It can work out as long as your employers are flexible enough;)

Thanks for the replies, yeah, it's a flexi contract, unfortunately! With only 4 hours twice a week I'd have hoped I'd be lucky enough for them not to clash, but, Murphy's rule and all that, they probably would clash.
Suppose I'll stick with the new job for a few weeks, might get extra hours with holidays and what not, and if I see a pattern emerging RE the hours I'm given then I might be able to start looking for another part time job.

Well, presuming it is mainly days, since it is retail, then I'd say you should look for a job with primarily night shifts, like pubs, nightclubs....You get my drift.

It is only two days a week you are working, so I am sure if you started a job on nights, you could get around them around as to not clash.
