Hi All, Planning a holiday / honeymoon in October. We've saved about €4,000 for 3 weeks. We have not been to either Countries but we're narrowed it down to these two after numerous discussions. I've heard some great reports about both. We both love mixing with people and hanging out, adventure sports, history, politics and culture. Would anyone have personal experiences from both Countries as we're undecided. :

    regards

    Leon

Spent 3 weeks in Argentina last October, and am currently living in Australia.

It really is hard to compare as they are so different.

Argentina will certainly hurt your bank balance a lot less though, that's for sure!

Though all the best parts are spread out so you will want to get flights maybe, if you aren't keem sitting on a bus for 20+ hours.

If you do Argentina then I'd suggest the following:

    - Buenos Aires (Football, Steak and TANGO)
    - Iguassu Falls (Makes Niagara falls look tiny in comparison)
    - El Calafate (to see the amazing Perito Moreno Glacier. Some great hiking in nearby El Chalten aswell if you are lucky with the weather, which I was not)
    - Puerto Madryn (for whale watching, and Punta Tomba for the largest Penguin colony in the world. All of this is seasonal of course)
    - Bariloche (for all the outdoor activities you want)
    - Mendoza (rent a bike from Mr Hugo and cycle from winery to winery getting quite merry in the process. Watch out for the crazy latinn american drivers though :))

Other places that I haven't been to that others have said good things about are: Cordoba, Ushuaia, and Salta.

It is a large country though and you need 3 weeks to do it justice.

Being honest, Argentina is probably more romantic than Oz, so for a honeymoon it could be the better shout. Oz is huge aswell, so what parts of Oz are you considering?

Hope you have a great time wherever you chose.

I've spent time in both & I'd pick Argentina hands down. It's an amazing country & has every type of scenery you could want: cities, lakes, waterfalls, mountains, glaciers, etc.

All of the places the last poster mentioned are worth visiting. Patagonia was definitely the highlight for me. Oz is great but you also say you're interested in history & culture - Argentina is definitely a better bet than Oz in those regards.

We were thinking of Flying into Cairns and travelling down the Coast over 3 weeks to Sydney. We have thought about hiring a campervan etc. What do you think?

The East is a well beaten track. For a proper Oz experience I'd recommend doing Melbourne to Darwin, or Adelaide to Darwin, or Perth to Darwin. Much more off the beaten track and incredible scenery.
