Screeching noise from MBP?

    Hi all,

Just wondering has anyone else experienced a screeching noise from their MacBook Pro before?

I just browsing there on a MBP 13" mid 2010 and I heard a horrible screeching noise coming just right of the trackpad?

From what I can see, it did no harm, everything is working fine as usual.

Anyone else experience this? Just thinking is it worth bringing it into repair while the warranty is still available.

    Thanks!

Hmmm, that's not good. The hard drive is to the right of the track pad. Open Disk Utility and verify the disk. Do you have a backup? If not, I'd recommend you start making one immediately.

Could it have been the optical drive? Are their any discs in?

Just verified it there, it says the hard drive appears to be ok in green text. No, I don't. I'll be looking at external hard drives soon. No there was disks in the optical drive at all.

It's a very weird problem, I like to think I have been very careful with my mac since I got it..

I wouldn't trust Disk Utility. Backup any especially important or irreplaceable files to a USB stick or DVD until you get the external drive. If the screeching sound was the hard drive then it's most likely living on borrowed time.

It wouldn't necessarily have been caused by anything you did. Hard drives are just unreliable and can fail at any time. It's essential therefore that you have a backup at all times.
