When you were faced with armed criminals having just destroyed their illegal operation, what was it you did?

Or considering how lots of the border would be unmarked then I'd imagine it's quiet easy to do.

Easy to get lost but why no escort? Especially as this was equipment belonging to subversives.

Somebody should get their ass kicked for this.

Oh Dont be so touchy chances are it was all photographed. So in the end it would have been the subjecOnof a destruction order and at great cost to the state. This way the UK picks up the tab. I freely admit I would not have guessed the truck would get lost.

Main road out of Castleblayney passes through the north. That;s why they would have been there I imagine. Suppose they could have detoured but it may have seemed unnecessary

The implication of the article is that the hijacking would not have occurred had the truck not crossed into Armagh? That seems unreasonable.

I doubt it was a random masked gang that stumbled upon a revenue truck either. They could have watched it all the way to Dublin and possibly attacked it at any time.

    It does?
The XMG road would have been my last choice, unless I was going to the Hack or Dundalk.

    It does?

Head over and pick the M1 at Dundalk, Would have been my preference over heading to Ardee and down. ??

The main rd from Castleblayney to Dundalk passes through Culloville. Truck was hijacked on Crossmaglen rd which is a different crossing point into Northern Ireland. No way in hell customs would plan to travel through any of this part of the world. Definitely a major boo boo....

Maybe so, The M1 wasn't complete when I was there last, and Ardee was handy enough, if you timed it right. Slane was the hold up.

Garmin shows the M1 / Dundalk Junction via N53 to Castleblaney as being the quickest route to/from Dublin but if you cut off at Ardee its approximately the same. The Sat nav

Anyway theres loads of little roads round there that bring you across the border, and a lot of "no mans land" where your crossing from one jurisdiction to the other. If your not familiar with the roads its real easy to get lost. One wrong turn at almost any junction and you end up across the border, plus theres no markings. Many of the side roads dont even have the MPH Speed limits so you really are clueless as to where you are.

Customs HQ is in Dublin. Dublin port? Could be wrong on that..

Customs have extensive facilities in a number of different counties. Dundalk and Monaghan included.
