I am thinking to buy wifi only ipad2 as i already have jailbroken iphone 3gs, if i install mywi on iphone and create tethering for ipad2, will i pay extra for data usage? i am with vodafone, normally they do charge extra for tethering but my understanding is mywi creates a wifi network so vodafone wont be able to see this as tethering from another device, am i correct ? thanks guys

Yes, you are correct. Mywi effectively turns your device into a portable hotspot which you ( or others ) can connect to. Dont worry, you can enable security so only permitted access is allowed. Enjoy ;)

I've been using my phone as a wifi hotspot using miwi for several months now, haven't incurred any charges from Three so far. It's a really great app and very secure.

OP was asking about Vodafone. 3 don't charge extra for tethering, whereas Vodafone do.

You could just alter the tethering APN to the default data APN and use the built in native tethering to connect your iPad. I'm not sure if the 3GS has personal hotspot (?) but you can still use the Bluetooth tethering. It uses far less battery than wifi anyway.
