Foreigners being warned to evacuate Irish banks?

A number of foreigners, working for foreign companies in Ireland, have told me they've been 'quietly' warned by their employers to take their money out of Irish financial institutions, and ideally convert them to Krona/sterling/whatever.

I'm just wondering if there is anyone on the board who can confirm they have been told the same?

As a long term and fairly well known member of this forum, I'd doubt it.

I'm foreign, working for a foreign company in Ireland.

Never heard this and would be laughable if they said it anyway.

there are some strange stories flying around.

one of my workmates has a friend who works in the public sector, apparently he told her that on the august bank holiday, the govt are going to take all the money out of everyones bank accounts and all debts, mortgages etc are going to be wiped clean - apparently we're all going to start again with a fresh slate.

i didnt push any further as it sounds utter nonsense to me but she believed it, she wasnt sure exactly where he worked but knew it was dept of finance.

If you look at the statistics it seems pretty clear that many big players are pulling their money out of the banks guaranteed by the Irish government. I think the onus is on the people here who say there are no problems to provide some evidence that all is fine. What is the downside to putting money in foreign banks which are guaranteed by governments in a better financial position than Ireland?

In this case, the company are telling people to get their money
    A) out of Irish banks primarily
    B) out of Euro if possible

I don't know the motivation behind it. (Krona is hardly a reserve currency, is it?)
I guess it's most heavily related to the threat of default/restructuring and the ongoing bank run.

Perhaps they are concerned that deposit accounts are going to be raided - in the way that pensions will be.

This is why I would like to hear more from anyone who has heard the same.

That's not how it works. If someone starts making wild claims it's up to them to provide some evidence backing it up, not for others to disprove it.

This rubbish suggests their is a problem with the euro and not necessarily Irish banks? Why not move it to German banks? The OP is utter rubbish.

Only if I actually plan to convince you.
In this case, I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything - I really don't care what you believe.
I simply asked for information from people who have heard the same.

    Evidently, you haven't heard anything.
Therefore, would you mind not clogging up my thread further?

    Thank you

    p.s.
'Wild Claim' - After the last 3 years, I'm you'd want a highly refined imagination to concoct a wild claim, LOL.

I mean the worlds gonna end tomorrow, I just can't tell you who told me that, but it's gonna happen!

For months and months now the non residents have been withdrawing billions of euro out of the Irish banks, covered and noncovered

Tho I suppose for many of you the sorry state of our banks is new news, until the day you wake up and the banks have a closed sign on them or the government appropriates your money, for the "greater good of repaying bankers and gardai" of course.

Others have posted here too buddy, it's not just your thread anymore. All mortgages and financial records wiped cleam over the August bank holiday qualifies as a pretty wild claim.

    Thank you

Just be clear that I'm not claiming it as fact - I used it as an example of some of the stories that are floating around.

Why wait for August bank holiday, when we have one this week end. A man told me that a man told his wifes best friends, third cousins, brother in law, that numerous officials in the dept of finance, are actually working this Sunday and Monday. It's a bank holiday week end so something must be going on. Anne Doyle is going to have a big red face on her reading the news on Monday .

Was this thread ever likely to go somewhere useful? Either way, it rather clearly hasn't.
