I'm working on a college project at the moment and trying to come up with a great location for a candidate running for president of Ireland to have the launch of their campaign. I know it will need to be somewhere central in Dublin for the political journalists etc to attend but I am struggling to come up with a good idea. I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas anyone has (I'm open to anything even if it seems a bit crazy!).. Thanks

For crazy, I'd go with Hill of Tara

For sensible, Convention Centre in Dublin
Sunny day and you'll go outside, Merrion Sq if you can get permission

For central, Athlone of course ;)

Dunno, he's quite the popular man in Munster..... Cashel would be a good staging point for the rest of the country. History/symbolism etc.....

Michael Ó Muircheartaigh announced yesterday that he is considering throwing his hate in the ring. I hope he does - a genuinely great Irishman. He would represent our country outstandingly in what is effectively a ceremonial role. Given the dross that is Irish politics and this election in particular, I really hope he runs. He is the only politician I would actually campaign actively for.

Come on Michael - give us the president we deserve!

How about Cong aka film set 'The Quiet Man' and seek a mandate to challenge the endless procession of the lambs to iminent slaughter. Macabre yes, but bears a closer resemblance to the reality of the nation's perilous state than the wishy washy fluff emananting from the bunch of candidates so far declared.
