    Case from uk- http://www.independent.ie/and-finally/shopper-wins-10500-for-slipup-2666069.html
A supermarket shopper has secured a £10,500 payout after slipping on a grape in a branch of Asda.
The company apologised for failing to meet its own "high standards" following the ruling at Peterborough County Court.
The court ordered that Asda pay Thomas Wardle £10,500 damages - and pay £18,000 in legal costs - following the slip at the Rivergate store in Peterborough in January 2008.
An Asda spokesman said: "We have thorough processes in place to ensure our store floors are kept clean to prevent anyone from slipping or falling.
"We're extremely sorry that on this occasion we did not meet our own extremely high standards."

i understand for hospital bills etc and the amount awarded was pennies to the chain,so is it actually good for your wealth to take cases like that?,anyone else similar stories?.

When the lawyers start advertising on TV then we have problems.

I know my Mum slipped in a Dunnes Stores a few years back, think it was a slightly wet floor (not sure). She was fine and was getting up to go on her way when 3 different shoppers approached her telling her to 'stay down, stay down'.

That's one of the less ridiculous claims I've read about. The bike was obviously not secured on the shelf properly.. they're lucky it didn't kill someone.

it's only when this kinda shyte stops that prices can start to come down. lawyers needing work will take on any case, judges awarding ridiculous amounts over dubious claims will keep insurance costs high which are passed on to the customer.

public liability insurers will rather settle out of court for what may seem like small amounts too, but it all adds up.

    Sometimes shops deserve a hammering

In our local tesco there was a broken wine bottle so spillage and broken glass on the floor.
I told customer service and was told I was the third person to report it.
And not the girls fault, she got on the intercom to call in someone on the floor

I came back five hours later and the wine and broken glass was still untouched
Children go running around the store, Tesco were begging to get sued.

Tesco Ballyfermot, a filthy store with some good staff and woeful management.

But it didnt kill anybody or even harm anyone. Sure it was close but its not something that deserves e10,000 to be fair.

You better contact the doctor and judge involved in the case then, because they both concluded that the event did cause harm to the child.. just not physical harm. =p

Disgusting behaviour on all sides IMO

Especially the solicitors....imagine using a concept such as karma in order to sell this shameful waste of a court system's time? I was going to post about that Injury Lawyers 4 U advert on TV there a while back but decided against.

Imagine if you're an impressionable gimp looking at daytime TV and you hear someone tell you universal balance will be restored if you sue the sh*t out of someone, probably resulting in them losing their business if small, because of your own stupidity!

How do they sleep at night?
