If anyone has an Android/Windows Phone 7, there is an app called Pumps.ie and shows the prices of petrol/diesel near you. There's one place in cork with Petrol at 147.9 and Diesel at 137.9

I blame the greens for all of this and their carbon tax.

People seem used to the new high prices. Not so long ago, Diesel was 99c and Petrol was 1.04 close to me.

I paid €149.9 today in limerick city.

That's high, 149.9c seems average according to pumps.ie. Been 149.9c at my local independent station for 4weeks.

Filled up yesterday in Cork City @ 149.9c/l

Passed a station later than night (also in the city) that had diesel @ 137.9c/l and petrol @ 147.9c/l

Our own local station added 2c to the price of a litre of diesel last night/this morning - was 139.9c/l yesterday afternoon - 141.9c/l today

The AA are often wrong with their assertions. They must go to the dearest garages going.

My locals are 150.9 texaco and 149.9 topaz 149.9 Texoil

149.9 in my local topaz in Leighlinbridge.

It hit 155.9 in Blessington, Co. Wicklow at all three stations in the town.

I find Blessington always to be one of the dearest places to get petrol so I make sure that I don't have to fill up when passing through.

1.52 for petrol in most places on the northside. Bit of a joke, put €50 euro in yesterday and got just over 30 litres.

First litre of petrol i bought was around 1996, costing 49.9pence (63.36c). Kinda hard to stomach paying 148.9 now!!!!!!

A little enlightenment for the masses...I'm in the petrol business...and yes, it is a distress purchase for everyone. So here is who gets what out of a litre of petrol...

Excise duty (Tax) = €0.58 (includes carbon tax)
NORA (National Oil reserves Agency) = €0.02
VAT (charged also on the above taxes = double taxation) €0.26
    Oil company + Refinery = €0.60
Me (Independent forecourt Operator) = €0.03 to €0.05
So the next time you fill up, remember that for every litre, you are paying 86cent in tax or look at it like this - if you buy 40 litres, you are paying over €34.00 in tax alone!! add that to your PAYE,USC, PRSI and all the other taxes you pay indirectly and then ask...what am I getting for it? And please, don't blame guys/gals like me on the forecourt for high fuel prices...we do smile and say 'Thank you'...do you get it from anyone else in the price breakdown or supply chain?

The chain of supply is : Exploration company who pull oil from the ground - the oil refinery (Conoco Philips in Whitegate) - the oil company (Topaz, texaco, Esso etc) - the forecourt (either someone like me who is independent, but branded or...the major brand owned sites like Esso, texaco, Top, Topaz, campus etc etc)
    Oh and what is NORA?
NORA is the State Agency responsible for the holding of national strategic oil stocks at a level determined annually by the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources. Such stocks may be held directly by the Agency itself or on its behalf by third parties in Ireland and/or in EU Member States with whom Ireland has concluded a Bilateral Oil Stockholding Agreement.

NORA receives no Exchequer funding and its ongoing activities are 100% funded by a levy imposed on certain oil products while it borrows from commercial banks in order to purchase NORA wholly owned oil stocks. The levy is 2.0 Euro cent per litre. So, the government are storing oil in case we have another middle-east crisis like the '70's!
I hope this has been informative. :)
PS - when my family went into the petrol business in 1976...a gallon was 67p or in todays terms....19cent a litre...eat your heart out
