    Hey guys,

I'm looking to order a performance upgrade for an engine from a UK seller, he said he would quote me a price without VAT and deliver to Ireland, its literally a pulley , an air filter and some screws. Anybody know if i'd be charged with import duty on it?

    No

You can import anything within the EU except for Booze, Fags and Machine guns.

anything that comes from eu does not need import duty. if you ordering stuff from jap and usa, then get ready to bend over.

i bought hks dump valve from jap website, got cought on duty for 50 quid i think.

Thanks Shadow, yeah I thought I read that somewhere but wanted to make sure as this kit costs just under a thousand pounds, its a bit of a stretch for me and VAT or import duty would make a huge difference

If he doesn't charge you VAT you could be hit if the excise boys open the package and study the documentation.

A pulley, an air filter and a few screws are costing nearly a grand to buy

If you're not VAT registered he will have to charge you VAT. Not your concern if he doesn't as it's his problem.

Sounds dangerous, what are the chances of that happening?
so should I just ask him not to send a reciept?

How come he's not going to charge you VAT?

If he doesn't, then you'll have to pay VAT in Ireland.

But AFAIK it's not legal for him not to charge you VAT unless you are a business customer.

I'm not sure why , he said he can do the kit without VAT if delivered in Ireland, must make financial sense to him, how will the boys here know if he's charged VAT or not?

If your buying for a business you can give him your VAT number and he can zero-rate the goods for VAT, i.e. delivered VAT-free as far as he's concerned.
However you'll get hit for Irish VAT instead. No legal way of escaping VAT if you're not already VAT exempt.

He's probably never done it before and doesn't understand the process.

Package is coming from within the EU so the customs won't bat an eyelid at it unless it ticks or is leaking white powder.

Thanks for the clarification, should be ok to order then

I'll guess something to do with a supercharger...

You guessed correctly! Nothing extreme, a simple Carlsson kit made for the base 200 kompressor engines in C/E?SLK class mercedes cars. It increases boost to increase power about 40hp ;)

Wont you need to change the Timing and fuelling etc if your running more boost? Maybe change the CR?

Good point, I've seen alot in other forums about how the m271 engine is programmed well enough to handle extra boost, some of the other tuners (Kleeman, Braubus) offer a chip with their kit but this ones seems to be the one with the most positive reviews

"The CK20 tuning package increases the power of your car from 163 to 195 bhp and consists of a specially developed water pump wheel, vibration damper and performance air filter. A carlsson insignia is also included."

It might be able to handle the extra boost but Im thinking a 30bhp gain is abit optimistic your looking at over 20% gain in power there. The engine will need to be remapped to get the most out of the mod. A 20% increase in power you may be looking at getting larger injectors etc too. I dont know much about the kit TBH, but a 20% rise in power is alot to get out of a bolt on mod.
